About me

Adrian is the only writer and editor (admittedly a bad one) of "The Guitar Otaku" Blogspot.Nonetheless, he wishes to share his knowledge about the guitar with his readers out there. Adrian's starting influence on playing the guitar spawned from watching his classmates playing the guitar during the end of the year in class. The instrument intrigues him so much that it caused him to have an immerse interest in the instrument itself. Adrian started out playing the Classical guitar, learning from Yamaha school of music and stopped at a very basic level. For years he was playing only basic chord strumming patterns, basic classical songs or etudes, plucking single note melody and has the longest time of having no real idea on how to use a guitar pick.

His first revelation came when his classmates from his college days introduced him to metal and that's where his first contact of guitar modification started. Having already owned a cheap but damaged guitar, he took it to a local music store and had it fixed, outfitting them with the best pick ups (Dimarzio) he could afford, teaching himself how to play the electric guitar. Soon after, he worked in a local comic store and bought himself an Ibanez which he kept till this very day.

After losing 2 years of his life to World of Warcraft, he had a chance to watch a YouTube video of a 13 year old girl, performing a Steve Vai classic, "For the Love of God". That once again triggered his already existent interest in guitar playing and the instrument itself. Using the score book and GuitarPro, he managed to complete the whole song and still remains one of his favourite tunes till today.

After successfully learning a complex piece with mediocre guitar playing skills, he started directing his attention on guitar solo techniques and basic scale theory. From the single song, he managed to pick up certain guitar techniques and solo styles, and see a certain pattern on how the song was composed or played. He had a chance to chance upon a video of Yngwie Malmsteen teaching on YouTube and through that video, he acquired some Neo-classical based riffs which he often uses till today.

Adrian's keen interest in modifying guitars started out from the first pick up swap and from there, he slowly picked up and experimented on the various things he can do to the guitar. With zero experience and armed with a file and the guts to screw up, he successfully scalloped his first guitar, a Californian Squier, a guitar he enjoys playing till this day. He assembled his first Ibanez guitar, with parts gathered from all over the world through Ebay while at the same time enhanced his knowledge on guitar building. His Ibanez guitar collect rapidly grew from the very first one he bought to the 7 he owns today.

Adrian firmly believes that by understanding an instrument, one has more control over it. Adrian hopes to be able to further his knowledge on guitar modifying and building while advance his playing and music theory knowledge one day. Through his blog, he hopes to share with his readers out there on his experiments and guitar modifications.
